Bath Portraits

When I was studying photography it came to the portrait module and I knew immediately that I wanted to do nudes… and that I would ask friends to pose…and in spaces they would naturally be naked…bedroom or bathroom…I ended up doing a series of bath portraits in complete darkness with flash and asked each subject to move how they felt comfortable. I knew that it would be easier to get people uninhibited in their familiar spaces rather than in a studio with big lights. I wanted to get pictures of them not looking how they did in any previous photos of themselves. One of my friends - Ginny - said the experience was a bit like going to the dentist - you didn’t want to say no, but you were glad when it was over. Another friend said she felt less naked than she’d expected that she’d felt clothed by the water & darkness.
