Victoria+Jean/ Firecracker
Victoria Plus Jean’s plan was to work with different directors to make videos for each of the songs on their album ‘Devine Love’. I loved the textures & discordance & beautiful odd sounds from the vocals & instrumentation, the album felt full of a wonderful mad energy. I chose Pull The Trigger & Firecracker to work on.
We shot the videos over a week in September 2014. I got camera man & friend Steve Teers (& his array of cameras) down from London & we shot in & around Bristol for Firecracker & used an empty shop space as our makeshift studio for Pull The Trigger.
Firecracker the song has a raucous dirty manic energy. I wanted to make a video with a mixture of static & manic-ness in a clunky lo-fi animated stop motion fashion (with a nod to Bob Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Blues’ famous footage of him holding up cards with the song lyrics down an alley). It was lots of fun to shoot, we played with a Go-pro in a wheel/lights attached to them in a darkened room as they danced/balloon-a-mators in a forest/lurid coloured tights & lyric board) & lots of work for Tim Hogg the editor.
